Creating a Lego brick themed bedroom

Since SO Kid is Lego-crazy at the moment, we decided to customise his bedroom with a building block theme.

The bed and den

The bed itself is a midsleeper by Thuka with slide attachment. SO Dad cut out lightweight wooden panels with building brick shaped edges to fix to two sides of the bed, making sure the bed was safe and sturdy. We painted these using tester pots of standard emulsion with a coat of clear varnish over the top. We made ‘den’ curtains to match the Lego Movie duvet set. The semi-circle rug is actually a doormat bought from Ikea, but it matches the theme pretty well!

The play table and storage

The play table was made by SO Dad using wood from an old desk. It is the perfect size to fit 3 large Lego base plates for plenty of building fun. Our storage tubs are actually old recycling bins but are great for keeping all SO Kid’s Lego tidy and they fit under the play table perfectly. I painted 4 Lego head themed canvases as a finishing touch for the room.

The result is a bright, colourful space with lots of opportunities for creative play!

This is great! Bet he loves it! Really like the canvas idea and top of the storage bins – very clever 🙂

Brilliant! This is the sort of room makeover my kids would have loved. the bed alone looks fantastic with the slide and ladder but the way you have themed it adds so much value and fun to the bed. The lego recycle bins and door stop work a treat too, a very clever theme. I bet this bedroom will see hours of happy play.
