SO Mum’s guide to springtime fun around Winchester

Here’s a little list I’ve compiled of fun family events coming up this March and April in and around Winchester!

Fancy a trip to the theatre with your little ones? Theatre Royal Winchester have loads of family friendly shows coming up this spring, starting with Shlomo’s Beatbox Adventure for Kids on 1st March, SK Shlomo is a world record-breaking beatboxer who makes all kinds of music using just his mouth and a mic! Next up, Peppa Pig’s Best Day Ever comes to Winchester on 7th and 8th March, with a road-trip full of adventures for little ones and their families to enjoy. Discover some Unbelievable Science on 15th March with magicians Morgan and West, then a double-bill from Lyngo Theatre as they bring Jack and The Beanstalk to the stage on 6th April followed by Puss In Boots on 7th. If comedy is your thing, enjoy a swear-free hour with the circuit’s best stand-ups on 10th April as Comedy Club 4 Kids visits Winchester. There’s a special Easter Monday treat in store for Winchester families, as Sooty’s Magic Show heads to the stage on 13th April, then the grand finale bringing the Easter hols to an end is the classic tale of The Tiger Who Came To Tea, direct from the West End, running from 17th-19th April.

On selected dates, Winchester Science Centre are hosting their DIY Science events, with exciting live shows and activities for kids to get hands-on with. The centre is a great rainy day option and there’s something to entertain siblings of all ages.

We’re really looking forward to what Marwell Zoo has in store for us this April – a giant LEGO brick adventure with magnified models of fearsome creatures including a three metre tarantula and a towering two metre spitting cobra! SUPERSIZED will run from 4th April right through to 2nd September, with new models arriving throughout the summer – which is great news for annual members.  We can’t wait for the deep sea themed area coming in May!

Do your little ones love meeting their favourite characters? Visitors to Paultons Park will be able to meet Bobtail Bunny and friends during the Easter holidays, as well as Peppa Pig and George of course. Thomas the Tank Engine fans should head to the Watercress Line between 10th-19th April for a Day out with Thomas, which is always a fun adventure!

Last but most definitely not least, the Cadbury Easter Egg Hunts are back for 2020 at National Trust places in Hampshire. Explore the grounds, searching for clues to earn a yummy chocolate prize! Take part in one of the trails at Mottisfont, Hinton Ampner or The Vyne between 4th-19th April, or at Winchester City Mill during the Easter weekend, 10th-13th April.
